The Process
This beautiful renovation seamlessly blends the character of a historic home with the demands of contemporary family living. The existing house, brimming with original textures and materials, has been revitalised with a carefully considered two-part extension. A vaulted kitchen and dining room, bathed in natural light, now flow into an inviting sitting room, creating a generous family hub. A second wing, built on the footprint of original outbuildings, provides essential bedroom and bathroom space. To create a cohesive flow, the extension is linked to the original house via a flat-roofed passage with a striking stepped rooflight.
Among the standout features is the stunning glazed gable facing south. It offers a shaded outdoor dining space while flooding the kitchen with sunlight. Even more captivating is a versatile jack-and-jill chimney, boasting an external fireplace within a sunken seating area and a cosy internal wood-burning stove for the dining room. The extension's design echoes the original home's rich aesthetic. Clay plain tiles wrap the roof and walls, mirroring the existing house. Feature walls in grey brick complement the home's original render while utilising salvaged bricks and pamments from the outbuildings in the sunken seating area. Charred black timber fascias and soffits complete the carefully curated material palette.
